Workshops
Time to explore an idea, hear it out loud, and find the story you are trying to tell.
Workshops are where most People Tree stories take shape. Storytellers meet monthly to work through their experiences, test what they want to say, and hear how it sounds to someone else.
You do not need experience, and you do not need a finished story. Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to tell. Others arrive with a moment they keep returning to and no idea why. Both are places to begin.
First time storytellers should give themselves at least three months of workshops before a show. It is rarely about memorizing lines. It is about understanding what the story means to you now.

How a workshop goes
Step 1
Bring what you have
An idea, a half formed memory, or a story you have told a hundred times at the dinner table. You do not need a draft to walk in the door.
Step 2
Say it out loud
You tell it to the room. Hearing your own story spoken is usually the moment you find out what it is really about.
Step 3
Listen to what lands
Producers and fellow storytellers tell you what they heard, what stayed with them, and where they wanted more. The feedback is specific and it is kind.
Step 4
Shape it in your voice
You keep working the story between sessions, cutting what is not needed and finding the moment that matters most. It stays yours the whole way through.
